  • The Cathedral The mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cusco and a religious colonial monument of extraordinary artistic value with fabulous paintings and works in gold leaf, wood carved and covered with embossed silver. The Cathedral, in addition to its official status as a place of worship, has become a major repository of Cusco's colonial art. It also holds many archeological artifacts and relics. The cathedral was designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site under the City of Cusco listing in 1983.
  • Temple of Koricancha (Temple of the Sun) Its architecture is perfect, and the stone construction is a strong indication that this temple was the most important during the Inka Empire - a symbol of dominance in the West; the temple is considered to be one of the most sacred structures due to the fact that this temple housed a large select group of priests who worshiped the Sun and the Moon. The temple was finely built with etched stones – and, inside, the walls in the numerous chambers are covered in gold and silver leaf. The incredible size of the Inka walls’ stones are sure to be the center of attention.
  • Sacsayhuaman (House of the Sun) One of the most significant archaeological legacies that the city of Cusco owns due to its enormous complex structure. The archaeological structure is comprised of a total of 33 archaeological sites – the best of which being the Sacsayhuaman Fortress. The building may have been used for religious purposes – but, due to its location and style, the Spanish and contemporary writers assume it was a military structure. It is said that the construction of Sacsayhuaman lasted more than 50 years, and that more than 20,000 men were used in the construction; it is an impressive fortress of monumental stones and excellent architecture.
  • Qenqo Located a kilometer from Sacsayhuaman, this structure is a ceremonial center in which you can appreciate in the center of the structure a monolithic giant – possibly an animal – that was considered the principal deity of the Inkas; surrounded by niches, the Inkas made offerings to the deity. It contains a labyrinth cave that was cultivated very well by the Incas where you can see an altar; it was a ceremonial and ritual center where sacrifices were made.
  • Puca Pucara An antique tambo, constructed by the Inkas as a point of vigilance; its construction is rustic and contains streets, houses, and courtyards.
  • Tambomachay Found 9 kilometers from the city, this could a temple dedicated to the water cult – but, it’s known as the Inka bath due to the form of its fountains.

After our visit to Tambomachay, we will head back to the city of Cusco.
