ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF PUMA MARKA (OLLANTAYTAMBO)

To reach the archaeological site of Puma Marka from the Inka village of Ollantaytambo, there are two options:

  1. To walk along the highway that leads to Occobamba, passing through the zone of Muñaypata – then following the Patacancha Valley until reaching the entrance to Puma Marka; this spectacular walk to the archaeological site takes approximately 5 hours.
  2. To hire a vehicle for the round-trip – the trip there takes approximately 20 minutes via transport in ascension through the Patacancha Valley until reaching the entrance to Puma Marka; from there, a short walk is made until reaching the archaeological site – and the visit takes approximately an hour-and-a-half, plus another 20 minutes to return to the Inca city of Ollantaytambo.
